July 4th safety tips
Laredo, TX: The City of Laredo would like to remind the public that celebrating with fireworks within the city limits is illegal. Those caught inside the City in possession or lighting fireworks will be cited and possibly fined. Keep in mind that continued dry conditions increase the chances of wild land fires to ignite as a result of lighting fireworks to close to brushy areas, placing in danger many lives and property.
In addition to being a fire danger, fireworks can cause serious injuries such as serious burns and eye injuries by using them improperly. If you decide to celebrate with fireworks, remember to do so outside of the city limits in an area that is clear of brush and where it does not endanger lives or property. Also, remember follow these safety tips brought to you by the Laredo Fire Department and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission:
· Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
· Read and follow all warnings and instructions
· Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
· Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
· Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.
· Keep a bucket of water in case of a malfunction or fire.
· Never celebrate with firearms.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July. As always, remember to dial 911 in case of an emergency.
