Water safety tips

Laredo, TX, September 17, 2007: As summer draws to a close, hot weather continues to prevail attracting many to local bodies of water such as pools and our very own Lake Casa Blanca. With this said, we want to remind the community to continue observing safety water safety tips such as the ones listed below:
v Learn to swim. The best thing to do to stay safe in and around water is to learn how to swim. Courses are offered for any age.
v Swim in areas supervised by a lifeguard.
v Read and obey all rules and posted signs.
v Don’t allow running or rough play around the water.
v Children or inexperienced swimmers should take precautions, such as wearing a US Cost Guard approved personal flotation device, when around water.
v Before you go down a water slide, get in the right position – face up and feet first.
v NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR INFANTS UNATTENDED!!
v Learn CPR.
v Warn your children about playing in canals or other fast moving water (especially after a storm with heavy rains).
v Don’t mix alcohol and swimming. Alcohol impairs your judgment, balance, and coordination. It also affects your swimming and diving skills as well as reduces your body’s ability to stay warm.
